Moderators

3 Tasks

There are 3 key tasks for the discussion moderators:

  • Mediate and Guide Discussions
  • Regular Summaries of Discussions (every 2 weeks)
  • Final Summary/Report for the SGF Conference

Mediate and Guide Discussions

The moderator should watch, that discussions are done in a fair, polite and objective manner. Personal attacks and "flaming" has to be avoided. The means of the discussion moderators are modification or deletion of postings and in the worst case the exclusion of the violent discussion member.

Important is also to keep an eye on the overall discussion frame and try to avoid on-sided in depth discussion of specific topics. Counter measure would be to point to attention to alternative discussion topics.

Summarize Discussion Activities

Short summaries need to be done out of two reasons:

  1. People shall have the chance to quickly review previous and ongoing discussions. For this purpose regular summaries of the ongoing discussions will be made, which will be posted in the summary fora.
  2. A preparatory handout will be composed, which will consist of keynote addresses, the delegate asseys and the status of the internet discussions.
Report to the SGF Conference - Final Summary

The results of the discussions will be fed into the SGF conference discussions and therefore need to be brought in a brief and condensed form.

Who is eligibe? What's application procedure?

There is no specific requirements. Candidates, who have been participating in the discussions are naturally more suitable.

For the besst possible continuation of the discussions at the SGF conference, ambitious and successful moderators will be outstanding candidates for SGF delegates. This will be highly considered during the delegate selection and recommendation to national committees. For developing countries funding for delegates is avaiable.

Procedure
The head of the programme committee will nominate discussion group moderators in discussion with the programme committee. Applications are welcome by any means, most preferred by --> email.
