What will the SGF be like

The SGF conference is characterised as follows:
  • The SGF will be a think tank

  • The emphasis is on creating new ideas

  • Therefore the focus will be on small discussion groups

  • There are --> 14 discussion topics to start with.

  • Every participant will discuss in one of --> 3 parallel sessions.

  • The ideas will be propagated stepwise from these small discussion groups to the full plenum (outlined below)

  • The SGF will be interdisciplinary

  • Spontaneous initiatives to create new discussion groups are strongly encouraged.

  • Expert groups will be provided to allow in depth discussions of specific topics

  • Presentations should be generally avoided,
    only short presentations will be allowed

  • Keynote speakers and distinguished short presentations by known experts will round up the programme.

Emphasis: Identification and Formulation of Recommendations

Generation of ideas, diversity, get the wide perspective, discussing in width rather than depth, get to know various ideas and point of views.

Framing question: "How will space research and exploration affect you, your families, and your descendants over the next 50 years? "

HUMANITY: Global Strategies for Space Applications

Framing Question: "How will Earth and its societies benefit from our involvement in space activities over the next 50 years? "

Thursday, 22 Jul
COSMOS: Space Science and Exploration

Framing Question: "What overarching goals should there be for space research/ exploration and the space industry over the next 50 years?"

Friday, 23 Jul
SGF Plenary Discussion of Recommendations

Presentation and discussion of the recommendations having been selected during the last 3 days.

Ranking of recommendations through an evaluation scheme/voting.

Emphasis: (1) Detailing our Visions, (2) Follow-up Activities

Get into more detail, discuss more technical details, exchange with experts, What shall happen to the results? Comtinuation of the SGF?

Each parallel session has an individual theme of the day.
